An NDE after a suicide attempt

Chris Batts had an NDE after attempting suicide by jumping out of a speeding car. He recounts his experience and how it profoundly transformed his life in his book Boom! The Life and Times of a Suicide Near Death Experiencer (untranslated). Here are a few extracts.

I’m missing something

Before my NDE, I hadn’t given much thought to the meaning of life, but I felt that something was missing. Even when I was surrounded by people, I felt alone. Once the good times had passed in high school, I developed addictions and anxiety that drove me to suicide. My NDE changed everything. It gave me a sense of meaning and purpose that I didn’t have before.

Like me in the past, many people feel unloved and struggle in various ways to find love. My NDE showed me how God really sees us. You may not be the fastest, thinnest, prettiest or sexiest person in the world, but remember this: you are loved by many people you didn’t even know existed. I’m no longer concerned about the way others look at me. Today, all I care about is helping others and spreading my message to as many people as possible.

I met God

I felt a strong presence. I knew it was God. God’s presence was familiar, strong and precise. Some things are difficult to express, but when you feel God, you know Him in every aspect of your being. Some might call God “the Source”, but to keep it simple, I’ll just say God.

I asked him, “God, if I go back to Earth, how am I going to explain it to you? When people ask me what you’re like, how can I explain it to them?” The next moment, God hugged me like never before. I felt him kneel as one does with a child, a kindergarten child, to speak on his level. I never saw a face, but I felt arms around me, filled with love. God gave me a big hug and I felt safe.

Talking with God

That’s how God showed me how to explain it to people. When God let go of me, all I could say was, “Wow”. I asked:

  • “Is there anything you want me to say to these people when I return to Earth?”
  • “Go tell everyone I love them.”
  • “Is that all?”
  • “That’s all.”

And I thought it was amazing that God loves us so much that he wants everyone to know. Then God told me something else: “I will go to the ends of the earth so that everyone will be with me.” I’ll never forget that message and that love. I still get goose bumps thinking about it. I want everyone to feel the same love that God has shown me.

It all starts with your thoughts

The greatest lesson my guardian angels have taught me is that your mind controls everything. Everything begins in your mind. Your thoughts turn into words, and your words turn into actions. So watch your thoughts and words. The words you speak create positive or negative waves. Think of every word that comes out of your mouth as a living being.

When you say “I can’t do it”, it creates a negative result. When you say “I can do it” or “Let’s be positive” or “Let’s love each other and be united”, it contributes to a positive outcome. Much more than you think.

The angels are with me every day

When I spread love and receive love from others, my angels are very enthusiastic. When I started listening to my angels, I never felt alone again. My angels helped make me who I am today. They simply made me better. I started taking care of myself and others.

It’s great to get to know the angels. However, my angels have also taught me that they are limited. At one point, I was so overwhelmed and excited about being able to talk to my guardian angels that I forgot all about the Source. That’s right, I wasn’t talking to God at all!

The angel on my right told me not to forget the importance of God. The one on my left reminded me how much God loved me. Angels can help make decisions in the moment, but if I’m asking for miracles in my life, I shouldn’t turn to my angels, but to God directly.

God is the only Source

Angels can be involved in miracles, for example, advising me not to drive on a road where I might have an accident, or giving me advice in difficult times if I allow them to. But the greatest miracles are reserved for God alone. Angels can never exceed their limits.

Long after my NDE, as I felt the love and happiness of my angels, they reminded me that they in turn derived all their love and happiness from God. God is the Source and Creator of everything. My angels reminded me that they too love God, and that God loves me even more than they do. God is so powerful that these huge, powerful angels are a gift from Him.

Some friends got irritated because I was always positive. I always looked on the bright side because that’s what we’re supposed to do – bring light into the world. Unfortunately, when someone is unhappy, they want you to be unhappy too. I found myself surrounded by many unhappy people. We seemed so far apart.

My NDE taught me to be positive and to love. I noticed that some people didn’t like me to be happy. They were sarcastic and cynical, always in a bad mood.

Nobody’s perfect. If we were perfect, we’d be boring.

Life is like an airplane trip

My angels told me that life is like an airplane ride. When we are newborns, we are still on the ground. When we start to walk and talk, we fly. It’s going to be a long, long flight with lots of turbulence. The angels are the pilots who help us through. They will give us indications and clues when our time comes, whether it’s a major change in our lives or the time to prepare for death, which is a new life. At the final destination, the angels will be there to tell you to unbuckle your seatbelt, thank you for flying with them, and wish you good luck in the afterlife.

My life is different

A lot of people ask me how my life has changed after my NDE. I’m happier and more at peace. A lot of things that used to bother me don’t bother me now. In situations where I might have been angry with someone in the past, I now see the reason why they acted as they did. I no longer fear death or hell. I enjoy life instead of worrying about what others think of me. My experience has taught me to treat people according to the love I feel inside. I feel more compassion for others and much more empathy. My spiritual side makes me look like a free-spirited hippie, wearing rainbow colors and talking about peace.

Many people have spiritual tendencies without realizing it. A spiritual person doesn’t judge you, no matter what you look like. Spiritual people don’t see appearances. We see the good in even the most damaged people. A spiritual person tries to improve every day. I’m very open to learning new opinions and ideas, especially spiritual ones. Anything that makes you seek God is important. Trying to help people is the main goal of life and becomes your mission.

The main message I want to share is what I learned during my NDE: no matter who you are or what you do, God will go to the ends of the earth to show you that he loves you unconditionally.
