Anke Evertz had an NDE after being accidentally burned alive. She tells it like this: “It happened on a cold September evening. My whole body – lighting the fireplace – caught fire in an instant. Everything in me went up in flames, and after a few seconds, all I could do was breathe in the flames. I’ll never forget the silent surrender at the moment of death, the sudden abandonment of my body and the amazed realization: “I’m still here after all!
The most beautiful trip of my life
It was the beginning of the most wonderful journey of my life. It took me far beyond myself. Ultimately, to complete awakening and to myself.
Over the next nine days – during which my body was in a coma – I was able to consciously experience the breathtaking being that I truly am… That I have ALWAYS been and that I will ALWAYS be! I discovered just how connected we are to everything… Yes, everything. And I was amazed at how blindly I had lived my life until now. What a waste of time…
I made the most beautiful journey of my life while my body, badly burned, was in a coma for nine days. Beyond my body and far from my mind, I plunged, level by level, higher and higher into my true creative nature. Those nine days turned out to be the greatest journey of learning and knowledge of my life.”
Metamorphosis
She describes her experience in her book À la source de l’existence – Les révélations d’une expérience de mort imminente de neuf jours. Here are a few excerpts.
“All the values, ambitions and motivations I had before the accident no longer make sense to me. Instead, my life takes the form of my inner fullness and joy. I’ve learned to let things come to me, to express what needs to be expressed, to let my emotions come and go, and to no longer stand in the way of this flow.
We all have access to Creation, to God, to the Source – whatever we call it – and it wants to express itself through us.
A complete change of values
Everything that had been important in my life up to that point lost all meaning. Nothing was really as serious or as dramatic as I had portrayed it. I had made my life difficult for nothing – struggling and fighting against things that, in the face of impending death, no longer mattered. I realized that the success of my career didn’t matter. It didn’t matter whether others liked me or whether I pretended to function.
The more I let myself go and surrendered to the luminous presence that surrounded me so protectively, the more detached I felt. It was like an inner liberation, and I felt a happiness I’d never experienced before in my life. I felt safe in this energy field, in this unlimited space surrounded by great unconditional love.
Total love
It’s the light of a living, universal consciousness that permeates all that exists. It makes you feel complete, pure and unconditional love. None of the emotions we feel as human beings come close. The more I opened up to this living consciousness, the more I was able to immerse myself in its total love.
We feel separate from everything in and around us. But this is an illusion. A fatal error of perception that lays the foundations for our very limited view of the world.
Nothing compares to the joy and happiness I felt at that moment, the wonderful feeling of “coming home”. I had never felt so loved, and in such an unconditional, appreciative and personal way. It still moves me today.
We come from the same Source
Realizing how small and insignificant our lives are compared to the immensity of our spiritual existence has helped me enormously to broaden my perspective. Knowing that we are all connected to each other on a spiritual level was particularly enlightening. There is no separation, no distinction. Not only are we all connected, but we all come from the same Source.
I was overwhelmed by the realization that every situation we encounter in our lives – be it happy or not so happy – serves a higher purpose. Everything that happens is part of a perfectly formulated plan. In my life, I’ve always been where I was meant to be. Because I chose to be there. Nothing happens by chance. Nothing happens without us having a say in it. Nothing is against us, we have no adversaries.
How could I have felt alone, abandoned by God, punished? All those years spent feeling unhappy with myself because I’d forgotten that spiritual connection…
We are the ocean
Imagine a vast universal ocean of pure consciousness. This ocean contains all the experiences, vibrations and frequencies of our universe and far beyond. It contains everything we humans are already aware of, but also everything we are not and never can be.
Everything you think is outside you – the environment, other people, your soul, God – is in that ocean. Now imagine yourself, like a drop of blood, slowly dripping from your fingertip into the ocean. As you detach yourself from the fingertip that has provided you with support and security until now, you consciously let yourself slip into the universal ocean of pure consciousness. As soon as you come into contact with the water, you begin to transform. You can’t remain a drop of blood after mixing with the ocean and dissolving in it.
Everything you once considered “yours” no longer exists in this form. You are now the ocean, connected to all that it contains, your consciousness interwoven with the cosmic consciousness. There is no longer any difference between you and it, you are now one. Close your eyes for a moment and feel. Imagine yourself as the drop of blood I described. Think of everything you think you know about yourself – your past, your experiences, your body. Everything that makes you who you are is contained in that drop of blood. You are this drop of blood. Now imagine yourself slowly dripping into a vast ocean that contains all of Creation. Feel how you connect with the water, how you dissolve and expand in it. We all come from this unity.
Inner fullness
Not only am I aware of the truth of these words, but I also feel this connection within myself and try to live it as best I can. I don’t need to search anymore, because I’ve found everything I need within myself. I no longer need to look outside myself for the things I think I lack. Because everything I really am is anchored within me. This has become an unconditional truth for me.
And it’s precisely this truth that I turn to inwardly when feelings of sadness or separation arise within me. Whenever I feel down, I gently lean into that feeling and embrace it. I recognize this wounded part of myself and realize that all these feelings could only have arisen because it felt separated from the Source. With love, I whisper to her: “You must remember! You must remember! I’ll show you who you are”.
An essential promise
I can promise you something very important: everything can change as soon as you start loving yourself.
The body’s mission is to enable us to experience life in and through it. It is directly connected to the Source.
Unfortunately, we humans have trouble perceiving this finely vibrating energetic miracle, and usually only notice it when it shows us that there’s a disturbance in the system.
We are connected to the Source
Suddenly, I saw the meaning I’d been searching for all my life: we’re not separate, we haven’t lost anything, and nothing has been taken away from us. No matter how we feel, we are fully connected to the Source and are never separated from it.
As infinitely creative, wise and unconditionally loving beings, we have the unlimited desire to give free rein to our creativity and rejoice in our own creations. We’re here on Earth to learn to love each other, whatever the circumstances. Your mission is to express your soul’s unconditional love through your body.
Our ego helps us to individualize ourselves, but it can only do so if it first separates us from our true Being. This is how we lose ourselves in the illusion of separation. But as soon as the inner, conscious changes begin, we remember our true Being and return to ourselves. We detach and drip back into the sea from whence we came.
Finding peace through love
I’ve come to understand that my main task is to become familiar with unconditional love and to live it. I also know that the purpose of my life is to find peace through this love, with the help of various experiences. I wasn’t supposed to keep adapting to the world, but to start enriching it.
The truth is, there’s nothing wrong with us! We’re not small and powerless. We are an incredibly vast, creative vibratory field, fully connected to the purest consciousness. We already are everything we’re looking for. We just don’t recognize it in the moment because we’ve forgotten it. Like the caterpillar, who doesn’t know that a second, completely different life awaits him.
Before my NDE, I had paid almost exclusive attention to the needs of others and had always placed my own at the bottom of the list. Today, things are different. I’m so full of energy and enthusiasm for life that I want to discover what I really like to do and what makes me feel good.
Whenever I’m in a difficult situation, I just have to ask myself one question: do I really want to feel like this? Since the answer is usually an immediate no, all I have to do is ask myself: How do I want to feel instead? And act accordingly. The magic is that everything else seems to happen almost automatically, and all I have to do is observe the changes.
Follow your inner joy
As soon as we start following our inner joy, passion and enthusiasm, life becomes easy. Because as soon as we listen to our inner lightness and joy, we notice it more and more.
As soon as we learn to let joy be our guide, miracles begin to happen. What excites you? What captivates you? What sets your heart on fire? What fills you?”
