Elisabeth Kübler-Ross describes one of her most powerful experiences: encountering the Light and unconditional Love spoken to her by her patients.
“I saw something that looked like the bud of a lotus flower open up
in front of me to become a wonderful flower. And behind this
lotus flower, there was suddenly the light my patients had always told me about.
As I approached the light through the lotus flower, I was
gently, but more and more intensely, drawn to this light, this
unimaginable, unconditional love, until I merged completely with it.
[Puis] I fell into the most extraordinary ecstasy a
human being can experience on earth. I was in a state of absolute love and
admired everything around me. I found myself in loving communion with every
leaf, every cloud, every blade of grass and every living being. I could feel
even the pulsations of every tiny stone. I was able to recognize
life in every component of nature, with a love that cannot be
expressed.
This experience changed my life in ways I can’t explain.
In particular, I understood that the purpose of our lives is to love, with a non-possessive, unconditional love
. If we live a life of total
love, then we will be able to accomplish in a single lifetime the goals that
are ours.”
