John Audette was one of the pioneers of near-death experience research. He drew from it a certainty about life after life and the meaning of life: “I am deeply and unconditionally loved by the Light and always will be. I know you are too, and so is everyone and everything in the cosmos. I also know that God is real and that life after death is real too. Here are a few ideas from his book “Loved by the Light”.
Two common points in accounts of near-death experiences
- People feel a deep sense of peace and acceptance. There’s no fear or anxiety. Experiencers felt cradled in the arms of the universe, out of time and space. They were floating in a kind of womb or divinely created bubble. They felt no anxiety. They were full of joy and euphoria.
- Experiencers felt a glorious, irresistible love they’d never received before. It shines in the form of powerful, undulating rays of golden-white light emanating gloriously from a magnificent “Being”. They invariably perceive it as an indescribable source of unconditional love and compassion. It extends to everyone equally, regardless of what they may have done in the course of their lives. In the sacred presence of this Being, all are uniformly and equally loved by the Light. Some see this presence of Love, but others simply feel it energetically in the depths of their being. It manifests itself in waves of energy. In general, they say they don’t have the vocabulary to describe what they’ve experienced. But they all agree that they have been loved by the Light in a way they had never known before.
We all need love so badly
Humanity is in dire straits. She needs to be flooded with love and light. She needs to be reminded that God is real and that she is an eternal spiritual being. Most are lost in the illusion that this body and this life are all there is. We’re here to help them awaken spiritually. This before they blindly destroy themselves in a sea of suffocating ignorance.
As we approach the end of our lives
Some people at the end of life experience an intense mental crisis or emotional breakdown. This is due to an identity crisis that shakes them to the core. This is the moment when all facades crumble, when illusion is no longer tenable. This is the moment when people become very honest about who they really are.
When people are confronted with their approaching death, they realize that they can no longer define themselves as they once did. The ego identity they have long nurtured is rapidly disintegrating. They discover that they are not the sum of their bodies, their money, their achievements in life or their social roles.
Reduced to their eternal souls, people lose the reference points they once used to define themselves. This causes anxiety on a scale never felt before. These realizations trigger an identity crisis of the first order, and give rise to a series of harrowing questions. They ask themselves: “If I am none of these things, who am I? What am I? What will I become?”
They will cling to the physical body for as long as they can because it’s the only reality they know. Sometimes this will cease when they come into contact with the larger, invisible spiritual reality. Caregivers call this phenomenon “deathbed visions”.
Consciousness is eternal
Consciousness isindividualized, but alsolinked andentwinedwith theentirematrix ofcreation. It is neither matter nor energy. It isimbuedwithanunceasing desire to return to the Source fromwhich it came. And it is destined to reunite with the intelligent, loving Consciousness at the origin of all existence.
When an individual consciousness fully realizes its unity with the Universal Consciousness, it manifests the unconditional love that is within Celle. This is what many people experience after their near-death experience.
Fundamental lessons
In summary, the main lessons from the study of near-death experiences and spiritually transformative experiences are as follows:
- We can confidently say that there is an intelligent, loving and compassionate infinite “entity”. Some call him God. Others refer to it differently. But it’s the same reality.
- Nur consciousness is éternal and à foreverée à God. It continues beyondà de la mort de manièindestructible, that’s for sure. La vie après la mort est réher.
- Nonous sommes aiméunconditionally by God, without judgment, punishment or condemnation.
- However, we must be accountable for our behavior on earth. There’s an ingenious system of cause and effect, of action and reaction, of karmic responsibility. It enables us to rectify our actions towards others that have been unkind or unloving. This responsibility corresponds to the adage:“what we do to others, we do to ourselves”.
- All things in the cosmos are tiny aspects of an inseparable whole. Creation is one big interconnected network. It evolves into a perfect expression of unconditional love, in harmony with the Source.
- Thus, the vocation of all aspects of creation is to reunite with the Source. We all come from it, and it is to it that we will all return. So everything is one. Yes, we are inextricably linked to all other things.
It all comes down to love
Love everything unconditionally at all times. This was the main teaching of Jesus, Krishna, Buddha, Lao Tsu, Confucius, Mohammed, Gandhi, Milarepa and other great sages. This is also the lesson of near-death experiences.
There comes a time when fame, fortune or power leave us empty and unfulfilled. It’s the moment when we wonder if something greater awaits us, beyond the usual trinkets of life.
At the end of life, we realize that fame, power and wealth are temporary, just like the body. We come to think of it as a temporary container. Sooner or later, we are confronted with the fact that everything on earth is tomorrow’s dust.
It is by realizing this that we understand what Christ meant: “Do not put your treasure where moth and dust corrode it”. In other words, don’t attach value or importance to things that ultimately have none.
The time has come to find a reliable compass. The one that will guide us successfully and prepare us for our final homecoming.
The best way to achieve this goal is to bring unconditional love wherever we are. We must make the source of Love within us flow.
Loving as much as possible
When you die, all your social roles die along with your physical body. Your whole social identity melts away like snow in the sun. All your possessions also disappear, as does the physical body you held so dear. What’s left? Only the things you did in your last incarnation. That’s all there is to it.
And what stands out most before God is selfless love, kindness and compassion. That’s what you’ll be most proud of, and most eager to celebrate on the other side. It’s the only thing God values when examining your life.
Remember that this life is nothing but a testing ground. Life is nothing but a preparation for the eternal reality that comes after death. Life, if you like, is a great preparation for death.
God defies definition. But He has at least two characteristic attributes: infinite creativity and infinite, unconditional love for all things. So devote yourself to kindness, goodness, empathy and compassion. Create limitless beauty by humbly serving the greater good of all things.
The essential question for humanity
The essential question humanity should be asking itself is: how can we unite in harmonious cooperation and collaboration? How can we make this time the best ever, not just for a lucky few, but for everyone on earth, and for the earth too?
And what could bring about a change of this magnitude?
To answer this question, we need to ask another:
What would motivate a critical mass of humanity to seriously consider this issue as an absolute priority? What would prompt us to take decisive steps in the right direction?
This requires a spiritual revolution: the knowledge that God exists réeally exists, and that life afterès death.
In my opinion, humanity will not makesignificant progress towards a more equitable state of affairs untilwe have collectively evolved spiritually . Without this, political revolutions will continue to fail or fall short of their objectives. They will continue to disappoint. They won’t bring about the desired level of reform, no matter how many progressive thinkers rise to the key positions of power.
In a perfect world, egocentricity and materialism would be relics of a bygone era, replaced by unity, harmony and altruism. In such a world, we wouldn’t harm any other living thing. For we would understand perfectly well that, in doing so, we would only be harming ourselves just as much, if not more. Stories of near-death experiences help us to experience this small inner revolution.
