Countless people describe the happiness, joy and peace they felt during their NDE, especially in the presence of the Light, sometimes personalized by the “Being of Light”. This happiness had nothing to do with having or doing anything, but with being in the presence of this loving Light that bathed, permeated and filled them.<\/p>\n\n

“I felt no stress, I felt more love than I could have imagined. I had more joy, more happiness than in the brightest days on earth. If a soul can smile, then mine did. I was fine, carefree”.<\/p>\n\n

“The light came so close to me that it enveloped me. In that instant I felt peace, joy and absolute tenderness, as if this light consumed me and conferred total serenity. I was the object of unlimited love. I felt welcomed, loved unconditionally, forgiven for all my mistakes in life. I was united with the light and filled with happiness.<\/p>\n\n

“I felt totally surrounded, encompassed in an omnipresence of light, incredibly fiery and loving. The serenity and unconditional love that emanated from it and flowed through me are beyond words.”<\/p>\n\n

“I then became aware of an immense Light that completely enveloped me. It penetrated my soul, which was as if in a bath of love. It was a presence with a distinct personality. It was peaceful and emanated love and forgiveness. I felt a sense of complete security with her, the likes of which I’ve never felt before. It was perfection. Everything was there, in that Light.”<\/p>\n\n

The same message for as long as I can remember<\/h2>\n\n

These testimonies echo the teachings of all spiritual and philosophical traditions: happiness is not about “having” or “doing”. It’s inside us, in our deepest being.<\/p>\n\n

We all have a thirst for the absolute, for fulfillment. Unfortunately, most of the time we’re not looking in the right place. We think we’ll find this fulfillment outside ourselves, in this relationship, that possession, that action, and so on. And we’re never satisfied because no relationship, no success, no accumulation of money or material goods can ever give us the fulfillment we so desire.<\/p>\n\n

Joy is inside<\/h2>\n\n

As Denis Marquet explains in his book “Dare to desire everything”: behind all relative desires there is a search for the absolute, and nothing will truly and lastingly satisfy us until we have found that absolute.<\/p>\n\n

As Saint Augustine said almost 2,000 years ago: ” [pour trouver le bonheur] I rushed at the beauty of the things You created, and I couldn’t see that the true source of my satisfaction was You, the Beauty within”.<\/p>\n\n

This is also what Jacques Lusseyran said: “People tell you that joy is outside. But that’s not true. Joy doesn’t come from outside. It’s inside us, whatever happens. No external event, no matter how peaceful, will give us joy. And that’s for the simple reason that we already have it.<\/p>\n\n

When we understand that nothing external will truly and lastingly satisfy us, we are ripe to seek happiness where it lies: within ourselves. That’s where he’s always been waiting for us.<\/p>\n\n
