You are the ocean in a drop of water

You’re not just a drop in the ocean,” said Buddha, “you’re the ocean in a drop of water.

Numerous experimenters have been able to experience this incredible reality.

  • “I knew I had become One with all existence.
  • “I’ve come to understand that we’re all the same energy.

In his book “This Life and Beyond”, Christophe Fauré explains that awareness of this universal unity is part of the profound changes experienced following a NDE :

“Most often, the people concerned experience very significant changes in several areas [notamment la] understanding that we are all interdependent, members of a single “body”, and that our individual consciousness is also part of a single universal consciousness.

Love is our common nature

Two essential and complementary ideas emerge for most people:

  • The realization that we are all part of the same universal consciousness. There is no “me” and “you”. This awareness is at the heart of our life mission.
  • Love is the very nature of this consciousness.

To use the classic image of the wave and the ocean, during a NDE people realize:

  • That they are both a wave on the surface and the ocean below.
  • That this ocean is an infinity of love.

It is love that allows us to realize that there is no separation between ourselves and others.

The universe is not made up of separate material elements. It is the manifestation of a single consciousness, “made” of love, which encompasses and unites all that exists.

Discovering our true nature

And Christophe Fauré adds, for those of us who are not experiencers: “becoming aware of this, even if we haven’t had a NDE, can profoundly reorientate our lives. We then try to live and express the love that is our true nature. This love begins with ourselves, since we can’t love others authentically if we don’t love ourselves.

The people who experienced the encounter with the whitelighter felt totally loved. They felt their immense value and profound dignity. They felt worthy of love. This in turn gives them a great deal of self-confidence and removes the need to worry about other people’s opinions.

Uncovering our fundamental nature, realizing that we too are beings of light, an infinite source of love, compassion and wisdom, is a magnificent life project.

We are a divine radiance

This corresponds to many spiritual traditions. They all tell us that we are, beyond the surface and appearance, a radiance of God – with all his Life, Love and Beauty.

Marianne Williamson reminds us in her book “Choosing the Light”: “Your true being is divine, loving and solid. It may be temporarily hidden by the veil of illusion and shadow. But it cannot be destroyed; it’s always there.

As Arnaud Desjardins says: “This is the traditional teaching of Hinduism and Buddhism: you are already Buddha-Nature. You are already infinite and free.

But you think of yourselves as small, tiny beings in this immense universe, so weak, so dependent on each other, so incapable of being in your fullness and non-dependence.

Deep inside you vibrate the memory and intuitive knowledge of your greatness. It attracts you and, at the same time, frightens you because you’re afraid of calling your whole life into question. (…)

The ultimate “Self”, man’s essential “I Am”, is nothing other than the absolute. Everything we seek, everything we aspire to, is nothing compared to such a statement.

Let’s live in awareness of our true nature: an unlimited source of Love.
